Community Involvement

28 May 2015

On Thursday 14 May 2015 a women’s centre in Oldham was transformed thanks to volunteers from Inspire Women Oldham and staff from New Charter Building Company and across the Jigsaw Group.

The make over day has had a great impact on the new centre, creating a clean, fresh and bright space for the women to use.  Inspire Women aims to bring women in Oldham together who have experienced difficulties and struggles, turning ‘vulnerability’ into confidence and making a positive change to local communities.

Paint brushes and pots at the ready, our volunteers got to work with a great team spirit. Steve Shilley, Painting Manager for the Building Company, and apprentice George Ratcliffe were there to oversee the project and help with some great hints and tips.

Sally Bonnie (pictured above centre) Director and Chairperson at Inspiring Futures CIC (Inspire Women Oldham) said: “Inspire has needed a home for some time. Gaining support from Aksa, Threshold and New Charter Building Company has made a lot of dreams come true. This is a wonderful example of partnership working and what can be achieved through hard work, generosity and determination.”

Other volunteers said:

“The day was fantastic! It brought lots of wonderful people together to do something fabulous for other wonderful women; of course the guys Steve, George and Gary (The Orange Club) were fabulous too!”

“First time painting for me, loved the day and the company.”

“It was lovely to see everyone get stuck in.  The place looks great and I made sure everyone was fed and watered.”

“I didn’t think I could paint so well, I’m going to do mine at home now!”

This is just one example of our ongoing community work with partners and other organisations.  We are always keen to get involved in new initiatives and give something back to the communities in which we proudly work.
