Jigsaw Group which owns around 19,500 homes across Greater Manchester and Nottingham is the country’s seventh best employer.

The Tameside-based housing association reached number 7 in the 2014 Sunday Times Top 100 Best Not-For-Profit Companies To Work For poll, as voted for by employees, jumping from number 10 since last year’s survey.

It is the fifth year running the housing group has been ranked in the top 20.

New Charter, which employs around 1,000 people, also retained the top three stars in the Best Companies survey – a Michelin-style rating system for public and voluntary sector companies based on feedback from employees.

The three stars is a stamp of excellence recognising New Charter as an ‘extraordinary’ place to work.

Employees were surveyed from across the Jigsaw Group including its building company and partner landlords Aksa Homes in Oldham, Gedling Homes in Nottingham and homelessness charity Threshold.

The survey placed the Group second for ‘giving something back’ and fifth for both ‘personal growth’ and ‘my team’. ‘Giving something back’ recognised the Group’s commitment to community days and other projects that people can take part in during working hours. ‘Personal growth’ highlighted the self-development and learning opportunities that are available, and ‘my team’ is all about the buzz people get from working at the company.

Ian Munro, New Charter’s Group chief executive comments: “We’re again absolutely delighted with the results of this year’s survey, in particular how we have moved up the table this year. This brilliant result is testament to the hard work and dedication of our great people.

“We’re completely focused on the development of our people and strongly believe that a happy workforce links directly to our performance and our overall customer satisfaction rating of over 90 per cent.

“We feel very privileged to be recognised as one of the top employers among some of the biggest companies in the country and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their continued commitment in making New Charter a great place to work.”
