Putting housing on the map!

03 July 2014

Last week New Charter represented housing at a national conference and exhibition in Manchester.

Held at Manchester Central (24 – 26 June), the annual event run by the Chartered Institute of Housing aims to put issues like welfare reform, homelessness and the need for new affordable housing on the map.

As a large housing group with tenants and services across Greater Manchester and Nottingham, a very important part of our work at the conference was to help raise awareness of these national issues by showing the sector and key politicians and ministers the work we do locally.

Our Executive Director of People Chris Amyes was invited to speak to a national audience about the work we do to tackle housing poverty in our neighbourhoods through community projects and our links to academy schools.

We showcased the launch of new neighbourhood plans to help to improve areas by tackling local issues and talked to people about what we’re doing to help tenants manage the Government’s benefit changes like Bedroom Tax and Universal Credit.

It was a great event which was also attended by tenants up and down the country.
